Sciatica is a term derived from the sciatic nerve that is present in back of the leg. It is a pain that might start from the lower back, going down to the buttock and all the way to the leg, sometimes in the ankle or toes.

There are several symptoms that can determine whether a patient is suffering from lumbar radiculopathy. These include:

  • A constant sensation of varying pain in just one side of the buttock or just one leg. Sometimes, sciatica can affect both legs as well

  • The sensation of burning or tingling down the leg or the lumbar space of the back

  • Pain, numbness or weakness experienced when moving one foot or leg.

  • Constant pain that increases as you sit or stand and is very sharp
