Neuropathic pain is a very complex pain phenomenon. It is mostly intense, sharp, burning pain and tissue injury is inciting event. One of the common findings of neuropathic pain is that the nerve fibers are damaged, short circuited or completely dysfunctional due to the injury that caused the pain.
 

There are many types of neuropathic pain conditions, such as phantom limb syndrome. This syndrome causes the brain to receive pain signals from the nerves even after the arm or leg has been removed post injury.
 

There is no one type of treatment available to manage this condition. A combination of several treatments in the usual approach. Management with medications, physical therapy, behavioral modification and relaxation therapies, acupuncture, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug infusion etc. are usually suggested to patients affected with neuropathic pain conditions.
